We report on the growth of superconducting Nb-doped thin films on substrates by pulsed laser deposition. We find optimum Nb doping and high mobility for growth near 870 °C and chamber pressures below Pa ( Torr). The transport properties were measured from 300 K to 150 mK. The most highly doped samples display metallic behavior, and are superconducting below 350 mK, with transition temperatures similar to those of bulk single crystals.

Nb-doped strontium titanate single crystal targets were purchased from Commercial Crystal Laboratories, Inc., Naples, FL. Nb-doped STO is made by adding stoichiometric to stoichiometric The formula assumes that all of the extra O and Ti has segregated from the crystal during growth. Elemental analysis on the Nb-doping concentration was carried out by Charles Evans and Associates, Redwood City, CA, using proton induced x-ray emission.
