Mottier's technique of matching the reference beam modulation to the object beam modulation is shown to be a special case of local reference beam (LRB) holography. A hand‐held object beam mirror is used to produce a good LRB hologram. A new form of LRB holographic interferometry, which measures the changes with respect to a preselected part of the object, is discussed.
