As the linac-based X-ray FEL oscillator is actively pursued recently, feasibility of a storage ring based X-ray FEL oscillator is examined. Conditions of the required storage ring parameters such as beam emittance and machine parameters are investigated. Also, the performance and advantages and disadvantages of a storage ring based X-ray FEL oscillator is compared with those of other X-ray FEL sources.
