Leaf beet was one of the important leaf vegetables which had rich nutritional value, and was popular with consumers. In this study, we obtained cytological parameters on four varieties of red petioles and green leaves leaf beet. The results showed that the relative length of RG1 was ranged from 9.66% to 12.46% and average arm ratio was determined 1.38. The karyotype asymmetry index was 57.83%, and the karyotype formula was 2n=2x=18=18m (2SAT). The relative length of RG2 was ranged from 9.73% to 12.59% and average arm ratio was determined 1.29. The karyotype asymmetry index was 56.26%, and the karyotype formula was 2n=2x=18=18m (2SAT). The relative length of RG3 was ranged from 9.10% to 12.31% and average arm ratio was determined 1.37. The karyotype asymmetry index was 57.50%, and the karyotype formula was 2n=2x=18=18m (2SAT). The relative length of RG4 was ranged from 10.23% to 12.09% and average arm ratio was determined 1.31. The karyotype asymmetry index was 56.51%, and the karyotype formula was 2n=2x=18=16m+2sm (2SAT). The karyotype characteristics of four varieties of red petioles and green leaves leaf beet were all type 1A. The findings revealed the karyotype characteristics of leaf beet from the cytogenetic aspects.
