Road crack filling is one of the steps in highway preservation, which aims to prevent the entry of water and other materials into cracks that can lead to more severe road damage. In addition, with the use of qualified materials and appropriate application procedures, the closure of crack gaps may improve pavement performance and extend service life. The pavement crack filler material should have the ability to prevent the inclusion of water and incompressible substances on its surface and have a softening resistance at high pavement temperature during the day. Asphalt penetration or asphalt cement is the basic material commonly used as crack fillers, plus other additives which can improve its quality as a crack filler, one of which is a concentrated natural latex. According to ASTM D5078, the ability of crack filler in preventing incompressible ingress can be known by resilience test, using ball penetration tool attached on standard penetrometer. The resilience test results in a recovery value, where the value should not exceed 30%. While the ability of the filler to retain the softening can be known from its softening point value, where the minimum softening point for the crack filler is 65.5°C. Another requirement is the hardness of crack filler which is identified with penetration value obtained from cone penetration test should not exceed 70 unit. From the test results showed that the addition of concentrated natural latex on asphalt cement 60/70 increase the resilience, the resistance to the temperature and the hardness of the asphalt cement, and at certain latex content fulfilling the requirements as the crack filler material.
