MIT‐Bates, in collaboration with BNL, plans to investigate the possibility of building a very high intensity polarized electron source suitable for a linac‐ring version of eRHIC. The main challenges in this project are very high average and peak current and high heat load on the cathode. The planned ways to overcome these problems are discussed.
