Measurements of electron spin dynamics at low temperatures (T<5K) in a series of high mobility 2D electron gases in modulation doped GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells show damped coherent oscillations. The frequency corresponds to the conduction band spin‐splitting at the Fermi energy and the damping is related to the momentum scattering time obtained from the electron mobility. The behaviour corresponds to D’yakonov‐Perel’ spin relaxation in a quasi‐collision‐free regime.
