A hybrid modeling approach for aerial estimation of crop evapotranspiration in irrigated areas using satellite imagery is proposed. The approach uses the basal crop coefficient method updated with reflectance‐base crop coefficients as the underlying model. The energy balance approach is used to update the soil water status in the root zone of the crop. Preliminary data show that the crop coefficient seasonal trends support the logic of the approach.
