1,2-Dihaloethanes were catalytically reduced by electrochemically generated ( or 3) anions in 0.1 M tetrabutlammonium hexafluorophosphate in benzonitrile under cyclic voltammetry and rotating disk electrode (RDE) voltammetry conditions at platinum electrodes. The second-order catalytic rate constants, determined by the RDE voltammetry under pseudo-first-order conditions against the 1,2-dihaloethanes, largely increase in the order: Alkanes, alkenes and monohalogenated alkanes were products of the electrocatalyses.
