This research paper titled "Teaching English Language at Engineering and Technology Institutes in India-Problems and Remedies" investigates the challenges associated with English language instruction in engineering and technology institutes in India. The study aims to identify the specific problems faced, outline the objectives of the research, describe the methodology employed, present the key findings, and provide recommendations for addressing these issues. The paper begins by highlighting the problem statement, emphasizing the difficulties encountered in teaching English language skills to students in engineering and technology institutes. The objectives of the research are then outlined, including the identification of language-related barriers, exploration of existing teaching methodologies, and assessment of the impact on students’ learning outcomes. To accomplish these objectives, a mixed-methods approach combining surveys, interviews, and classroom observations was utilized. Data was collected from both students and instructors, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of the challenges faced and potential remedies. The key findings reveal that language barriers, limited exposure to English outside the classroom, and inadequate pedagogical techniques contribute to poor language proficiency among engineering and technology students. Additionally, the research uncovers the need for specialized English language instruction that aligns with the technical requirements of these disciplines. Based on the findings, several recommendations are proposed. Firstly, implementing language courses specifically designed for engineering and technology students can enhance their comprehension and communication skills within the relevant contexts. Secondly, incorporating interactive teaching methods, such as project-based learning and industry-oriented tasks, can facilitate practical language application. Thirdly, fostering an immersive English language environment through extracurricular activities, language clubs, and collaborations with English language experts can promote continuous language development. This research paper sheds light on the challenges faced in teaching English language skills to engineering and technology students in India. By identifying the key problems and presenting appropriate remedies, the study aims to contribute to the improvement of English language instruction in these institutes, ultimately enhancing students’ language proficiency and their ability to excel in their chosen fields.
