Urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infectious disease caused by the development of pathogenic germs in the urinary catheter. The main bacteria causing urinary tract infections (UTIs) are Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Red Ginger (Zingiber Officinale Rosc. var. Rubrum) is a plant with antibacterial and antibiofilm activity. This study aimed to determine the activity of ethanol extract of red ginger against bacterial growth and biofilm of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The extraction method used is Maceration using 90% ethanol as a solvent. Antibacterial tests were carried out using the well diffusion method, and biofilm inhibition tests were carried out using the liquid microdilution method. The extract concentration used was 20%, 10%, 5%, and 2.5 %. While the concentration of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus is 1.5 x 108 CFU/ml. Data were analyzed with Oneway ANOVA IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0. The antibacterial test found that ethanol extract of red ginger inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Biofilm inhibition test against dual species Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus obtained MBIC50 sequentially at 20%, 10%, and 20%. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that red ginger ethanol extract has the potential for antibacterial activity and biofilm inhibition.
