This study assesses the six (6) phases of the three-year implementation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) project for twenty-seven (27) substations of Peninsula Electric Cooperative (PENELCO) in its pursuit of reliability, power quality, and safety of power system for better electric service. The assessment has two parts: the operational performance of the SCADA components and the comparison of the reliability indices before and after implementation. The assessment’s main objective is to measure the degree of improvement in terms of reliability and safety in the newly completed project. The basic four assessment parameters adopted from a local private transmission company were used for assessing the operational performance of the SCADA system, while the data on unscheduled interruption frequency and duration recorded before and after the implementation of SCADA were compared and analyzed. The conducted assessment gave PENELCO a view of the performance of the SCADA system on its full implementation. However, recommendations and findings were made to further the SCADA system operation compliance. Furthermore, through the SAIFI and SAIDI analysis, the indices’ reduction evidently showed better reliability and safety.
