The paper examines the interaction between the RPSf 2018 rail profile, approved for use in the city railway of of Sofia in 2018, and rail profiles 60R2, 60R1, 49E1 and B60. Research has been done on the contact points between a pair of rim and rail with an in-depth analysis of the type of contact. Graphs illustrating the difference in the rolling radii between the RPSf 2018 rim profile and each of the rails are accordingly provided. Design equivalent conicity values were calculated for all the rails, with tests conducted for both 1435 mm and 1009 mm gauge. Performed is an analysis of the interaction between the rim profile and each of the rails, and identified, on that account, are potential areas for further research and optimization.
