The ever-increasing prices of goods and commodities in recent years has emerged as a pressing concern for all industries around the world, including Europe. This problem has also affected the shipbuilding and ship repair industries. Ship designers, shipbuilders, and ship owners face the crucial task of creating, constructing and operating ships that are as efficient as possible in terms of hull weight. Analyzed, to that effect, is the efficiency of various steel profiles used in shipbuilding with the aim of minimizing ship hull weight while ensuring the necessary modulus of resistance and inertia moment. Non-dimension coefficients are obtained to evaluate the effectiveness of two commonly used shipbuilding profiles, considering the required modulus of resistance and inertia moment. Developed, furthermore, are diagrams to aid in the selection of optimal spacing based on the evaluation of the necessary modulus of resistance, inertia moment and ship hull weight minimization.
