Realizing the fourth industrial revolution era in the twenty-first century requires more than just knowledge. Accordingly, quality human resources require a harmony between education and experience. Self-practiced problem-solving expertise has the potential to provide employment prospects for locals, who can then contribute to the economy as valuable human capital. This study aims to describe the importance of problem-solving skills in learning chemistry as a demand in the 21st century. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a literature study as its starting point. The results show that the importance of problem-solving skills in chemistry learning includes: a) chemistry learning is closely related to concepts and their application in daily life, so problem-solving skills are needed in problem-solving; b) the chemistry curriculum presents problems as content that is integrated with the curriculum area to provide opportunities that can help students improve problem-solving skills; c) problem-solving skills are taught through the Polya model, namely: understanding the problem, making plans, implementing plans, and reviewing again. So, in order to meet the needs of the 21st century, it is important to teach chemistry students how to solve problems.
