Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) has more advantages than Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT). Unfortunately, the VAWT efficiency is still relatively low. However, VAWT efficiency can still be improved by performing a hybrid VAWT Savonius-Darrieus. One of the parameters that can affect the efficiency of the hybrid VAWT Savonius-Darrieus is the selection of the airfoil model. In this study, the NREL S809 airfoil was chosen in the hope that the results would be better than the hybrid VAWT Savonius-Darrieus model conducted by previous researchers. The method used in this research is Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The CFD process is carried out at a wind speed of 4 m/s and a TSR of 0.5 – 3.5. Based on the CFD process, it is concluded that the hybrid VAWT Savonius-Darrieus NREL S809 has a better self-starting ability than previous research. The maximum Coefficient of Power (CP) value of the hybrid VAWT Savonius-Darrieus NREL S809 is 0.327 and occurs at TSR 2.5. In the TSR range of 0.5 – 2.5, the hybrid VAWT Savonius-Darrieus NREL S809 has an average CP of 7.95% greater than the hybrid VAWT Savonius-Darrieus by previous researchers.
