Physics learning contributes significantly to technological product innovation, but misconceptions can hinder recognizing creative ideas. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze students’ misconceptions about the work-energy material and its causes. This study’s population was all class X students from three high schools in Banjarmasin City. One hundred twelve students were obtained as samples in this study through a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The study used a test with a certainty of response index (CRI). The test results are in the form of answers accompanied by reasons with the CRI level to determine the percentage of students’ misconceptions. Overall, students’ misconceptions in three high schools in Banjarmasin are 51.11% in the moderate category. This misconception is caused by students’ internal factors (preconceptions) and is exacerbated by external factors, namely the physics learning process is less attractive, teacher explanations do not motivate students, learning materials have not been linked to real life, the use of the internet as a learning resource, and poor management of the learning environment less precise.
