Water is a basic need for all living things. Ponds, lakes, rivers and groundwater are the main assets of light water. Due to industrialization and over populations, the supply of clean water on the planet may be restricted and the demand for clean water is increasing every day. Seawater is highly saline, so it is important to desalinate the seawater first. This review analyzes the unique desalination techniques, technologies and standards, which impact the overall performance of solar distillation plants. Solar water desalination is the most efficient method because it no longer requires electricity or other traditional energy sources. Solar water desalination is useful in satisfying human requirements in remote regions where there is no access to electricity. There has been a great deal of research and study, and there are still many more being conducted. Low productivity is the main drawback of solar water desalination system. A large number of parameters need to be improved to enhance the production of solar desalination system. Few researchers have examined the impact of nanomaterial and Nano fluids on productivity and found that they have positive effects on the efficiency of solar desalination systems.
