PT Vale Indonesia Tbk. planned to increase nickel matte production in 2019. One of the attempts was to replace a haul truck from CAT 777D to CAT 785C. The replacement required a mine haul road widening activity. Mine haul road widening activities at PTVI used heavy types of equipment which were excavator, dump truck, and bulldozer rented from the contractor. Therefore, it needed scheduling in order to optimize the rental costs of heavy equipment. The aim of this research was to calculate the time duration of project completion and to optimize the rental cost of mine haul road widening activity in Sorowako Block. The method used for scheduling the widening activity was the critical path method (CPM) and the method used to obtain optimal cost was the simplex method. Based on CPM analysis, the mine haul road widening activity is scheduled to finish in 693 days and become 232 days after being optimized which are 109 working days of excavator Komatsu PC200, 77 working days of dump truck Hino 500 FM 260 Ti, and 46 working days of bulldozers Komatsu D65p with an optimal cost is $342,689.
