Context-based learning (CBL) is widely used nationwide in Thailand. On the contrary, situation-based learning (SBL) is rare in the educational context of Thailand, especially in teaching and learning mathematics. The researchers analyzed the literature related to CBL and SBL in the international context as well as in the Thailand context. After that, the researchers synthesized the core principles of CBL and SBL into a single framework and came up with six teaching steps simply called IIPSAA that consisted of: Introduction, Identification, Practice, Summarization, Application and Assessment. The IIPSAA teaching steps aimed to develop Grade 10 students’ learning achievement and problem-solving skill in mathematics. The researchers applied IIPSAA in designing the lesson plans on the topic of Set for teaching Grade 10 students in mathematics. The lesson plans were sent to a panel of five experts to validate their content validity through the Index of Item-Objective-Congruence (IOC). The calculation of IOC revealed that the lesson plans that applied IIPSAA as teaching steps were qualified through expert judgment with the IOC higher than 0.60. The concrete example of one lesson plan was raised as a concrete example of translating the theoretical idea of IIPSAA into real classroom practice.
