The study of degradation on Zr-6Mo alloys and Zr-6Mo-1Y as a bio tolerant dental implant in carbonated soft drink solution was conducted. Zr-6Mo is an alloy which has developed for dental implant and hard tissue biomaterial. Zr-6Mo and Zr-6Mo-1Y was synthesized by arc melting furnace under argon atmosphere. After Zr-6Mo and Zr-6Mo-1Y alloys were melted, then characterized by a SEM. Rockwell micro hardness tester is used to examination of hardness of Zr-6Mo alloys and Zr-6Mo-1Y alloys. The corrosion potential and corrosion rate are examination by potentiate. The result from characterization by a SEM shows that all the as-cast Zr-6Mo-xY alloys consist of parallel plate and basket wave microstructure with the increase of Y content in the alloy, the hardness of Zr-6Mo characteristic is decrease, makes them potential biomedical materials for implant. The corrosion potential examination of Zr-6Mo and Zr-6Mo-Y show that the potential corrosion of Zr-6Mo and Zr-6Mo-Y increase to the positive value for longer of immersion time. The result of corrosion test was showed that addition of yttrium will improve the corrosion resistance of Zr-6Mo alloy. The length of immersion time on corrosion test of Zr-6Mo and Zr-6Mo-1Y alloys will decrease of corrosion rate that alloys because the alloy the alloy was formed a thin passive layer on the surface of that alloys.
