This work aims at studying the structure and mechanical properties of steel bimetals (AISI 304+ASTM A414 grade A+AISI 304) and (AISI 409+ASTM A414 grade A+AISI 409) after laser cladding. The cladding modes were selected in such a way as to provide a homogeneous monolithic coating. The thickness of main layer of ASTM A414 grade A steel was 6 mm. The thickness of the cladded layer of stainless steel AISI 304 and AISI 409 were 1 mm. Special attention is paid to the bimetal transition zones with different chemical and structural inhomogeneities and their effect on the mechanical characteristics. In particular, the depth of decarburization of the base layer in the bimetal is shown to depend on the temperature and time of annealing.
