The effect of dry grain boundary (GB) energy and width, and the triple junction energy on GB-induced premelting and its transformations to the melt is studied using dry tricrystals having three planar GBs which are meeting at 120° dihedral angles. A thermodynamically consistent phase-field approach of Ginzburg-Landau type is used. One order parameter is used to describe the solid↔melt transformations, and three other order parameters are used to describe the three grains of the tricrystals. Variable energy of the GBs is assumed, which is a function of the order parameter related to the solid↔melt transformations.
