Fatting materials, implemented to collagen fibers in the process of fatliquoring semi-finished leather products, protect them from drying out and stickiness, and also give the leather the properties of elasticity and plasticity. The efficiency of fatliquoring depends on the selection of fatty substances, including the technique of carrying out the fatliquoring process. Fatty substances of different nature have different effects on the properties of the leather. Therefore, to give the leather a complex of the necessary properties, it is preferable to use a mixture of various fatty substances. The purpose of this study is to determine the specific groups of a new fatting agent obtained on the basis of the esterification reactions of crude fatty acids from cotton soapstock and fusel oil, which are secondary and by-products of the domestic industry. And also, the influence of an ester on the structure of chrome tanned leather has been determined. The ester obtained from mixtures of fatty acids from cotton soapstock and alcohol was analyzed using FTIR and SEM. To study the interaction of an ester with collagen after the fatliquoring of a semi-finished leather, chrome tanned cow leathers was used for the production of upper leathers. According to the results of the analysis, ester bond with collagen and a deep uniform distribution of chrome tanning in the leather was observed. This research work provides an economical and stable fatty agent for fatliquoring leather.
