Manufacturing industry plays an important role in India by generating jobs and contributing towards economic stability by exporting various types of products and services. In last few years, many industries came in to existence and some foreign firms shifted their base in the country which increased the competition among them. Therefore to survive in the market, companies are using various competencies so that customer needs can be met. Tostudy the effect of core functional competencies on the working of the firms, case study has been carried out at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Gurugram. Results show technical competency, concept (idea) competency, and material and equipment related competency as dominating factors having significant influence on the performance ofthe industry.
