In this work, a U-shaped UWB antenna for Internet of Things (IoT) applications is designed and analyzed. In order for the antenna to have an ultra-wide bandwidth, a rectangular slot is cut into a partly rectangular ground plane. The ground also has a slight edge cut. The size of the proposed antenna is 16 x 20 mm2. The radiation characteristics, such as reflection coefficient, VSWR, gain, efficiency, and radiation patterns, are analyzed. The developed antenna has an excellent wide band impedance matching of S-parameter < -10 throughout the Ultra-Wide band frequency range of 3.1 to 12 GHz and an omnidirectional radiation pattern over throughout the UWB frequency band. The suggested prototype is constructed on an FR4 substrate, and measurements are performed to confirm the simulation findings.
