With large population of smokers worldwide cigarette butt is one of the most consumed tobacco product waste (TBW) on the earth. Improper disposal of littering waste which is mostly ending in the ocean has become a critical issue. Along with toxic contents it has a plastic filter, which requires many years to degrade. In this study cigarette butts are used to assess its feasibility for soil strength improvement. Cigarette butts (CBs) are mixed in 0.5%, 1%, 1.5% and 2 % of soil. The geotechnical properties with laboratory testing: compaction by standard proctor test, strength by unconfined compression shear test and swelling properties were analyzed for the cigarette butts soil mixture. The test results showed range upto 1% cigarette butts mixed with soil give good improvement of MDD, unconfined shear strength and swelling index.
