Productivity demands must be balanced with the industry’s obligation to ensure occupational safety and health as well as a conducive and safe working environment. This study aims to assess the work environment in one of the automotive component industries and implement improvements to the work environment in accordance with working conditions. The study focuses on friction welding post where workers are exposed to high temperature material handling. The method used is ergonomic check points which are commonly used to assess the work environment to propose the improvement for better and safer working environment design. The checklist used 7 aspects of ergonomic checkpoints and resulting 4 main aspects is proposed to be improve which are material storage and handling, workstation design, premises and welfare facilities. The improved layout of friction welding post and the new design of workpiece dolly rack which accommodate items in ergonomic checkpoints is proposed as result of this research The material storage dolly rack is also proposed as the result of this research.
