Tuned mass dampers (TMDs) are vibration absorber devices that are used in all mechanical systems to reduce structural vibrations. In the present study, an investigation of the effect of inherent damping of the superstructure is employed with a TMD. The analysis is done for different mass ratios of TMD and superstructure. The TMD parameters such as frequency and damping ratio are optimized via a metaheuristic method called flower pollination algorithm to reduce a frequency domain response. Due to taking the frequency domain as an objective, the investigation covers all types of systems (civil structures or machine parts) and excitation (wind, disturbance, earthquake, etc.).
