Municipal solid waste (MSW) produced in Malaysia increased from year to year due to urbanisation. As a result, landfills received a large amount of MSW beyond their capacity, which led landfills to produce leachate that contains various substances. This study used the aerated chemical coagulation (ACC) technique as a leachate treatment to cope with leachate management. This method removes Ammoniacal Nitrogen and colour from stabilised leachate under the influence of polyaluminium chloride (PAC) dosage, leachate pH and aeration rate. Sample of leachate has been analysed to get the characteristics of leachate. This study determined the influence of aeration rate, PAC dosage, and pH on ACC. Based on the result, the optimum value for ACC under the influence of PAC dosage, pH and aeration rate was 400 mg/L, pH 5 and 1.0 L/min, respectively. ACC has shown the best removal of Ammoniacal Nitrogen and colour with 53% and 71%, respectively. In conclusion, ACC has the potential to treat old leachate based on the removal parameters, which were Ammoniacal Nitrogen and colour removal.
