The article discusses the processes and factors affecting the operational characteristics of water-retaining hydraulic structures. The analysis of the influence of natural conditions on the earth dam is presented. The process of water saturation of soil masses in natural conditions is considered. Using the equation describing the movement of seepage waters in homogeneous soils, depression curves were constructed for different periods of time and with changing natural conditions. When designing hydraulic structures, it is necessary to take into account the calculated areas of water saturation of soil masses.
