Tourism is elucidated as the time hanged away from a person’s origin or home to relax, have fun, recreate. This term originated in the 17th century in Western Europe. It contains social arrangements and has his forefathers from early ages. Tourism however is closely associated with other domains like medical tourism, business tourism, sports tourism, package tourism, and religious tourism. Religious tourism is done to quench their thirst for spiritual thought process and ends with visiting pilgrimage places, faith-based cruising, monasteries, etc. In places like India, Religious tourism has two kinds of visitors: Local tourists, the person who is near to God and has a strong faith. Foreign tourist is a person who is not an Indian citizen but still has an interest in its culture and thus wants to have a spiritual experience about India. This study will help us in understanding the impact of religion on tourism and also be helping us in knowing the effect of package tourism on promoting the footfall on religious places in India. The paper is divided into four sections. Section 1 gives the introduction to the study, section 2 describes the background knowledge for a better understanding of the terms Religious tourism.
