Academic rankings provide a wealth of information that is essential for the formation of the image of higher education institutions and the management of their development. The model proposed in the study solves one of the tasks of the project to promote the university in the academic rankings of the Strategic Development Program of the Ural State University for 2021-2030. - development of recommendations for the promotion of the university in international and national rankings. The model is formed on the basis of the system dynamics method and implemented in the Anylogic simulation environment. The paper demonstrates the application of the model to identify predictors of the Ural State Economic University (USUE) in the QS Emerging Europe & Central Asia ranking. An analysis of the results obtained during the operation of the model on USUE data indicates an insufficient growth rate of the values of the following indicators of academic rating: (1) academic reputation, (2) the presence of the institution on the Internet, (3) the number of articles in international databases. The work gave recommendations on the measures that must be taken to enter USUE in the range of 250-300 places in the QS EECA rating (the current position of the university is 300-350). The proposed model can be adapted for other rankings with similar methodology, for example, for the QS BRICS University Rankings.
