This study was based on the problems that the students felt less interested in following classical guidance because the classical guidance was done only by delivering material from BK teachers to students by using the lecturing method. The purpose of this study was to examine the students’ needs for classical guidance in counseling models with open-ended techniques. This research was done in mixed-method with data collection tools were interviews and questionnaires. The population of this study was students of MTsN 5 Padang Pariaman, and the sample was class VIII. The results from interviews supervising teachers showed that the classical guidance implemented so far was more inclined to deliver material from the teacher. Sometimes, students just followed the services and did not understand the material provided. The questionnaire showed that the students need a new counseling model in classical guidance. There are 15 questionnaires to obtain the students’ needs with three categories. The first category is very needed with the percentage of 13.33% or two questionnaire items; in the category needed with the percentage of 46.66% or there are seven questionnaire items, and in a category quite needed in the percentage 40.00%, or there are six items. Based on the result, it is concluded that students need the classical guidance model with an open-ended technique.
