The concept of multifunctional nanomaterials has shown the most prominent progressive approach in the field of nanotechnology, which is anticipated to transform diagnosis and treatment. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have fabricated a massive role in human well-being in the clinical diagnostic and therapeutic field, as well as in multiple biomedical applications. Plenty of special attributes of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have given them a special place in the field of biomedical applications like their biocompatibility, low toxicity, high stability, number of unique functional characteristics feature, and convenience as well as way of synthesis became reason to attract broad attention. Internal features like optical, electronic along physiochemical helped gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to play a major part in their consideration as an effective nanomedicine contender. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are now being extensively employed as theranostics due to their tunable and largely sensitive optical and physicochemical properties. The term “Theranostics,” is a multifunctional operation that contains diagnostic and therapeutic functions at the same time while integrated into one system, thereby concurrently facilitating diagnosis and therapy. In this review, the recent progress and research on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as theranostics applications suchlike as cancer, antimicrobial, wound care, Alzheimer’s disease, COVID-19 etc. are described.
