Cryptocurrency is a form of virtual currency which uses the method of encryption. Like paper currency, any person may invest in cryptocurrency and make transaction in the digital world. But the biggest weakness of this virtual or digital currency is that it works in a decentralized system and is not regulated in India. However, efforts have been made by government time to time for its regulation. Supreme Court of India plays very important role for the existence of the cryptocurrency in the country as it uplifts the blanket ban on cryptocurrency transaction imposed by the Reserve Bank of India. This paper discussed the meaning of cryptocurrency and how it works. Further it discussed the regulatory journey of cryptocurrency in India.
