Breeding work on spring rapeseed and spring turnip rape at the Siberian experimental station (the Siberian ES) began in 1983. For many years, work on the development of high-yielding varieties has been carried out by the method of individual-family selection. This method involves the selection of the best populations under free flowering. As a result of breeding work, the following varieties were introduced into the State Register of Selection Achievements and approved for use: seven varieties of spring rapeseed (Radikal, Yubileyny, Rusich, Start, Kupol, Granit, 55th region) and four varieties of spring turnip rape (Iskra, Novinka, Luchistaya, Pobeda). Currently, the breeding work at the Siberian ES is aimed at developing highly productive varieties of spring rapeseed and spring turnip rape with ecological plasticity, as well as at the development of early-maturing breeding material with a changed fatty acid composition of oil. For this purpose, we are developing the appropriate parent material with a set of economically important traits. As a result of the breeding, new varieties were developed: spring rapeseed variety Sibiryak 60 and spring turnip rape variety Gratsiya. Thearticle provides characteristics of the promising variety numbers of rapeseed and turnip rape.
