Environmental concern has primarily focused on manufacturing setups. Overall, countries work towards a sustainable lifestyle and development to reduce their carbon footprint. The world is now witnessing sustainability trends in the health Sector as well. The Healthcare sector worldwide is characterized by the consumption of a significant number of resources. It should be the health care organisation (HCO)‘s primary responsibility to keep a check on carbon footprint and assess environmental sustainability. Worldwide there exists a standard rating system that provides green certifications. A major Indian population is below the poverty line, illiteracy contributes to unawareness in people as consequence healthcare organizations suffer in India. The present study aims to examine and understand the basics of green hospitals, various dimensions responsible to achieve green status, importance and correlation of these dimensions. It aims to examine the fundamentals of Green HCO, the various dimensions, barriers and a way forward to benign HC establishments in India. This work emphasizes the environmental, economic, health and community benefits of sustainability for the health care sector.
