Delhi is witnessing a declining mode share of public transportation (PT). Since its inception, Delhi Metro (DM) is having significant PT mode share. Due to fare increase and COVID restrictions, the DM share is decreasing. This research aims to evaluate the performance of DM in order to improve the ridership by means of enhancing commuter’s convenience and comfort. Blue line being one of the busiest line of DM has been identified for the present study. An on-board survey is conducted in February-March 2021 to gather the primary data. The data of questionnaire survey pertaining to the commuter’s perception towards the Security & Safety, Financial & Economic, Infrastructure & Comfort and Functional & Operational aspects is analysed using Relative Importance Index method to evaluate the DM performance. The analysis of the data reveals that safety & security has highest RII (8.37) followed by efficiency & viability (7.24), functional & operational (6.46), infrastructure & comfort (6.12) and financial & economic (4.85). The metro fare has got the lowest RII (0.473). ANN model based on RII results is proposed to identify the factors influencing decision to travel DM based on “metro fare per trip” factor. Few suggestions and recommendations are proposed to improve the DM performance based on analysis results.
