Cement as main binder in concrete has a negative impact on environment as it produces green house gas emission. Therefore, fly ash is an alternative as cement substitution and give benefit to reduce concrete porosity. However, when concrete expose in aggressive environment, some aggressive substance such as calcium oxide possibly to reduce concrete durability. The porosity of concrete is directly related to the permeability and lower permeability lead to lower chloride ion penetration. This study utilizes calcium oxide (CaO) in casting fly ash concrete with CaO variations of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% and testing program consist of initial setting time test, slump test, compressive strength test, and Rapid Chloride Penetration (refers to ASTM C1202). The process of testing the penetration of chloride ions requires a vacuum process on the specimens to be airtight. The result shows that addition of calcium oxide can accelerate the initial setting time and also the addition of CaO has a good impact at 5% on compressive strength. The addition of calcium oxide has not been able to improve significantly on chloride ion penetration.
