The purpose of this study is to explore social media users’ self-disclosure and influencing factors of connectedness, escapism, and social comparison. Using Facebook users as objects, we examine how individual and sociological factors impact users’ self-disclosure on social media. The result indicated a significant difference in the presentation between the true self and idealized self. People presented themselves with more true self than idealized self. No gender difference was found for both types of self-disclosure. Connectedness was associated with both true-self and idealized-self disclosure, while social comparison contributed to only idealized-self disclosure. Escapism was not related to both.
