The Paper reveals the problem of modern approaches to study, rescue and revitalization of the architectural-urban planning heritage of Ukraine, which has lost its original significance, was brought to destruction, is away from significant urban planning and social processes, and in most cases, is not studied. Today, the development of historical Ukrainian cities suffers from a number of problems that threaten both the current and future functioning of their territories and require the introduction of projects to revitalize their environment. Due to many circumstances: the lack of state policies to preserve the architectural-urban planning heritage substantiated by necessary development and financing programs, the difficult economic situation, inappropriate attitude of local administrations and lack of understanding by them about the role of the cultural heritage in civil society, a situation has currently arisen in Ukraine, where significant valuable historical objects and complexes are out of the public eye, not used properly, and are in a critical technical condition close to the emergency state. Destructive processes are especially active against the background of misunderstanding of the value, role and place of the cultural heritage sites in the process of forming a harmonious urban environment. The study shows violations of the valuable historical environment, and the detrimental effect of unsystematic interventions into the valuable historical substance of the city typical for historical cities and settlements of Ukraine. There are developed options of approaches to the revitalization process aimed at revealing the value of the city's historical environment and its preservation, and variants of harmonious coexistence of historical and modern buildings on the example of the center of the historical city of Ivano-Frankivsk (original name: Stanislaviv), which is currently in the epicenter of the so-called “construction boom” and practically loses elements of the valuable architectural-urban planning heritage almost every day.
