A water level monitoring system designed for sluice units of flood handling is presented. The system structure takes advantage of a pair of laser–detector distance sensor at a wavelength of 905 nm with a 2.5 cm precision. The diode laser system generates a laser pulse which is then transmitted to water surface and then reflected and captured by the photodetector. The travel time of the light can be calculated and brought information about the water level in question. The display of the water level is in the form of real time water level in a vessel which is displayed on the monitor layer assisted by Microsoft excel application in a graphic display. The process of calibration and testing has been carried out in a laboratory scale.
