The metal architecture (like the rest of the types of buildings) does not consist of mere materials and solid blocks, but rather are living, interactive works through which the user meets his psychological and social needs and requirements and through which he lives a sense of architecture. Architecture is a language of communication through its expressive aspects, which have become of great importance in The architectural design process for metal products, and each part of this design has special creative rules and features that determine its expressive features. The metal architectural product in general has creative characteristics that show its expressionism and define its features and apparent characteristics. The research identified them with functional characteristics, aesthetic characteristics, symbolic characteristics, and sustainability characteristics. These characteristics remain constantly associated with this product and integrate with it continuously, It is considered the most prominent factor in its expressive and plastic developments, and these characteristics have served to satisfy the expressive needs of metal architecture and over time, and here the importance of the design decision and what it defines and elects from these characteristics, which is a source of expressive metal architectural production.

Accordingly, the importance of studying these characteristics as elements that affect and are affected by the expressionism of the resulting form of the metal building, where their presence does not lie as factors or design elements that represent and embody the product only, but rather as one of the reasons for its resulting design expressionism. Which led to the importance of studying those basic characteristics that came within this research, which consists of several axes Where in the first axis, and with the help of specialized propositions, the concept of metal architecture will be defined and the historical path of it will be clarified, and then the minerals that are the component and basic element in metal architecture will be defined. After that, we will move to the second axis, in which the concepts of expressionism and their projections in the architectural product will be clarified as they are the reality that touches the design process to reach the creative idea that characterizes that solution and elevate that idea to become a title for creative expressive thought in the metal architectural product. In this axis, it will be explained how the expressionism of metal architecture appears and is reflected through its functional, aesthetic, symbolic, and sustainable characteristics, where the research will present the most important concepts and vocabulary related to these characteristics, to derive a table that is applied to some examples of metal architecture to explore the characteristics that express expressionism through them and the way and how they enable them to show this, and then the final part of the research will be reached in which will display the conclusion of the research.
