The rapid development of technologies in the electric power industry of the railway industry causes the growing volume of serviced technical means, the complication of the range of professional tasks, the intensity of labor processes and the increase in the area of personal responsibility of specialists. The modern social order does not limit the requirements for the model characteristics of railway power supply specialists only by the criteria for the completeness and volume of specialized knowledge and skills, but also includes indicators of psychophysical fitness that allow maintaining the required level of professional activity efficiency. The conditions for implementation of professional activities of specialists are characterized by a high level of influence of professional risks, the consequences of which may be manifested in danger to the life and health of workers and passengers; occurrence of states of anxiety and stress, professional burnout; loss of control, violations of labor and technological discipline; occurrence of emergencies; financial losses for the industry. Content analysis of the texts of regulatory documents, which are the main criteria for the quality of professional training of specialists, revealed an underrepresentation of indicators that reflect the subjective, activity and communicative aspects of professional suitability, the degree of adaptability or stability of specialists under the complex impact of occupational risk factors. A multivariate analysis of “reliability” as a pedagogical category, based on the conditions for the implementation of professional activities of railway power supply specialists, made it possible to determine the essential characteristics of psychophysical reliability as an integrative property of a person, the structure of which can be represented by a combination of motivational-value, cognitive and reflexive-activity components, allowing counter the negative impacts of occupational risks. Comparison of the structure and nature of the professional activity of railway power supply specialists in terms of the degree of identity of essential features (based on the universal morphological matrix-classifier of activity) with sports areas that are implemented in the disciplines “Elective courses (modules) in physical culture and sports” at the Samara State Transport University made it possible to single out athletic gymnastics as the main means of professionally applied physical training for students of the specialization “Railway Power Supply”.
