Reflective assessment is proposed as an innovative alternative assessment to enhance students’ learning objectives through critical reflection of the learning process and deeper interaction with the topic. This study aims to investigate the implementation of reflective assessment using Gibbs reflective cycle in assessing students’ writing skills in the context of the EFL classroom. In this experimental study, one group of pre-tests and post-tests was used to examine student reflective writing, and a questionnaire was utilized to learn perspectives on students’ reflective assessment. Participants in this study were 28 EFL students from high school in Bandung. The test results showed that the Gibbs’ cycle was positively implemented in the reflective assessment. The questionnaire results also showed that the Gibbs cycle is an excellent framework for students to be used in writing reflection. This study recommends the Gibbs cycle as one of the critical frameworks for reflective assessment in education.
