Misconceptions about the virus can impact mistakes in responding and making decisions regarding the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. The purpose of this study was to identify misconceptions about Covid-19 in high school students in Malang using a three-tier diagnostic test. The three-tiers test is a multiple-choice question that tests three levels of understanding of concepts, knowledge, reasons, and beliefs. The research method used is a survey through a Covid-19 misconception test. The empirical validity test of the instrument uses the Anates 4.0 for windows application, and the reliability test uses the Chronbach Alpha test with the help of SPSS version 26. The results of the empirical validity show the validity coefficient value of 0.46 and reliability 0.89. We studied 487 high school students who were randomly selected from a stratified random sample. The results showed high misconceptions about the treatment procedure for covid-19 patients with a percentage of 43.33%. The research identified misconceptions of an effective way to suppress the spread of covid-19 with a percentage of 39.43%. The student has a misconception on preventing covid-19 with a percentage of 37.58%. Lack of students’ knowledge on coronavirus was also identified. Although the results of the study have not been able to explain the factors that contribute to misconceptions and lack of knowledge, this study suggests the application of active student-centered learning and utilizing socio-science issues to help correct misconceptions and anticipate misconceptions.
