Fungus is the largest organisms on earth. Fungi have mycelium, which can remodel plant cell walls containing lignin and then convert them into simple compounds, namely lignocellulose, and cellulose. The ability (fungal mycelium) to degrade is a promising advantage for research. The ability of fungal mycelium to decompose lignocellulosic materials in agricultural waste such as sawdust, cotton, rice straw, corn straw, and wheat straw can produce composite materials that can be used as an alternative to foam packaging for Expanded Polystyrene (EPS). By mixing the waste substrate, inoculation of fungi, incubation to grow mycelium, and finally drying to obtain mycelium foam. Various researches and patents have yielded results regarding the characteristics of mycelium foam material, which can make it as Expanded Polystyrene packaging, which has been widely used as a packaging material. Another interesting thing about this mycelium foam is its biodegradability because it is made from natural materials (mushroom mycelium and agricultural waste). The structure of mycelium foam that can replace polystyrene as a food packaging container is something that promises to be investigated in the future.
