The manual packing process that is carried out repeatedly with the excessive workload is very vulnerable to the risk of injury to the worker's body. Complaints of pain felt by workers in the hands and back of the body were triggered by manual labor methods with an ergonomic posture. This research was conducted in a company in the chemical industry sector with a 20 kg type waterproofing product. The goal is to reduce the risk of spinal cord injury. The method used is NIOSH through the recommended weight limit (RWL) and lifting index (LI) stages. The results showed that the average resting pulse rate (DNI) of workers was 69.52 bpm, with an average working pulse (DNK) of 141.16 bpm. For energy consumption>7 kcal/minute, with a recommended weight limit value of 6.17 and a lifting index of 3.24, it means that the workload is heavy because the lifting index value is >1. The proposed improvement is to reduce the horizontal distance to 25cm, increase the distance of the workpiece to the floor to 67 cm, reduce the multiplier asymmetry angle to 300, and reduce the frequency of the pail lifting process 1 time per minute. The recommended weight limit value is 19.08 and the lifting index value is 1.05, meaning that the workload is light and has reduced the risk of injury to the spine (musculosceletal).
