Metalworking fluids are important in the manufacturing industry. Metalworking fluids are widely used for their ability to reduce friction, act as heat removal agents and protect against wear. The most common metalworking fluid is mineral base oil. However, the used of mineral-based oil as metalworking fluid raise concern in environmental and health issue due to its toxic properties and it is non bio-degradable. Thus, the research on vegetable oil was studied to replace mineral-based oil. Non-edible vegetable oil can be considered a promising substitute for traditional metalworking fluid. The use of non-edible oil as metalworking fluid can reduce the competition in using edible oil as metalworking fluid and for food. This review article intends to inform readers about the current trend in the use of non-edible vegetable oils as metalworking fluid. This study includes an up-to-date and detailed assessment of the newest research on the usefulness of non-edible oils and their modified forms, blended oils and nanoparticles as additives. This paper also includes the study on Calophyllum Inophyllum oil as a potential metalworking fluid that is found abundant around the world.
